The only indication of life in Maruma's plush, private art studio in Stuttgart on Friday evening was the furious barking of his dog. No-one else on the fourth floor of the former chocolate factory in Fuchseckstrasse, it seemed, was at home.
Maruma, the owner of the Scottish island of Eigg, has not been receiving visitors since it was revealed last week that his 60 island tenants wanted rid of him. He has not answered his telephone, nor has he replied to faxes. Neither does he appear to be at home in his newly-furnished penthouse flat in Stuttgart's prestigious Marienstrasse.
